IMAX theater

The growth rate of IMAX theaters (systems) in China is the fastest: from 9 in 2007 to 76 in 2011, with an average annual compound growth rate of 70.5%. In 2011, the Greater China region (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) had a revenue of US$26.78 million, accounting for 11% of total revenue, which was the same as Asia (except for Greater China), and second only to the United States, which accounted for 45 %. IMAX was established in 1967, headquartered in Toronto, Canada and New York, USA. In 1994, it was listed on NASDAQ. I originally believed that IMAX’s future growth points mainly include: emerging markets dominated by China, the growth of the number of IMAX theaters worldwide, and the provision of more IMAX movies through DMR technology to increase box office revenue. 1. Emerging markets dominated by China IMAX theaters (systems) in China have the fastest growth rate: from 9 in 2007 to 76 in 2011, with an average annual compound growth rate of 70.5%. At present, there are still 124 undelivered IMAX projection system orders in China, which will be completed in 2016. In 2011, the Greater China region (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) had a revenue of US$26.78 million, accounting for 11% of total revenue, which was the same as Asia (except for Greater China), and second only to the United States, which accounted for 45 %. 2, global IMAX theater growth IMAX theaters increased from 299 in 2007 to 634 in 2011, with an average annual compound growth rate of 20.7%. As of the end of June this year, there are 663 IMAX theaters in 52 countries around the world. In the second quarter of this year’s financial report, IMAX expects to install 110 new systems throughout 2012, compared with 95 to 100 previously expected. IMAX's long-term goal is to have 1,700 IMAX theaters worldwide. In the next 5 years, about 120 IMAX theaters will be added every year, half of which will be sales and half will be added to the box office splitting plan. From a regional perspective, the United States has the largest number, and its growth rate is relatively stable: In 2011, the United States had 336 IMAX projection systems, accounting for 53%; the compound annual growth rate from 2007 to 2011 was 22.3%. As the most mature market in the film industry, the United States has a relatively complete film industry chain including theater construction. IMAX's viewing experience and box office performance far surpassing ordinary screens have attracted theaters to gradually upgrade to IMAX screens. The growth rate in Europe is slow and below average: from 46 in 2007 to 63 in 2011, the average annual compound growth rate is 8.2%. IMAX is currently expanding in cooperation with the two largest cinema chains (Cineworld, Odeon) in the UK. Russia is also growing rapidly. IMAX entered the region in 2003 and currently ranks third in the number of screens. The number of screens has doubled in the past two years. New contracts are constantly increasing. In addition, IMAX is also constantly expanding into other markets. In October this year, the first IMAX theater in Azerbaijan will open. 3. Increase the number of IMAX films through DMR technology. The financial report for the second quarter of this year shows that the company's film-related business income exceeds IMAX system sales, leasing and maintenance income (main business source over the years, 2011 revenue accounted for 50%), you can see The company’s current business focus is shifted: through DMR technology to provide more and more IMAX format movies, not only can get film production related income, but also get more box office revenue and franchise income from theaters that have joined the accounting program . The company stated that 25 films this year use DMR technology, which is the same as in 2011.
